Oscar Sandoval was used as a situational lefty out of the bullpen in his first season with the Matadors. In 11.2 innings of work, Sandoval was 2-0 with a 3.86 ERA and made 21 appearances. He recorded seven strikeouts and allowed just one extra-base hit all year. He set career highs with three strikeouts in 2.0 innings on May 7th as the Matadors upset then-No. 8 UCLA on the road 4-1.
OXNARD HIGH SCHOOL
Sandoval was a two-sport athlete for the Yellow Jackets and graduated in 2012. He was a four-year letterwinner for the baseball program and was the starting quarterback on the football team. As a starting pitcher and outfielder during his senior season, Oxnard went 20-7 and won the league championship. Sandoval had a 1.31 ERA with 68 strikeouts as a senior and also hit two home runs and collected 18 RBIs. He was named to the First Team All-League as a junior and senior for baseball and was a First Team selection as a junior for the football team.
