OUTDOOR: Repeated as Big West Champion in the shot put when he broke Joe Staub’s 40-year old school record (63-1) in the event with a toss of 63-2 1/2…advanced to the NCAA West Regional where he finished 15th (61-10 1/4)…reset personal best in the discus with a 157-11 performance during the Long Beach State Invitational Apr. 20.
INDOOR: Broke Billy Bush’s 18-year old school record in the indoor shot put when he finished sixth at the MPSF Championship Feb. 23 with a toss of 62-3…began the indoor season with a shot put victory at the Air Force Holiday Open Dec. 7 (58-3 1/4)…was third in the shot at the University of New Mexico Don Kirby Invitational Feb. 9 and fifth at the UW Invitational Jan. 25.
2018 (SOPHOMORE)
OUTDOOR: Won the Big West Championship in the shot put with a toss of 60-1 3/4 (the sixth longest in school history) which qualified him for the NCAA West Regional…would place 40th in the shot (55-9) at the regional meet…won the shot at the Beach Pacific Coast Intercollegiate with a throw of 59-9 1/2 on Apr. 19...won the shot at the Apr. 14 UCSD Triton Invitational with a toss of 60-1…won the shot at the Northridge Invitational (57-5)…was second in the shot at the Apr. 28 Desert Heat Classic (58-2).
INDOOR: Finished eighth in the shot (59-8 ½, the second longest in school history) at the MPSF Championship…turned in seventh place finishes at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Invitational (58-5 3/4), Jan. 27 UW Invitational (59-3 1/2), and Feb. 10 Husky Classic (58-3 3/4)...named Academic All-MPSF.
2017 (FRESHMAN)
OUTDOOR: Finished seventh in the shot put with a throw of 56-10 3/4 at the Big West Championship...advanced to the Junior Championships and placed ninth in the shot put with a season-best throw of 61-0…placed 22nd with a season-best toss of 148-11 in the discus throw at the Big West Championships.
INDOOR: Placed 19th in the shot put with a throw of 53-5 3/4 at the MPSF Championships...recorded a season-best throw of 56-3 3/4 at the Husky Classic.
HIGH SCHOOL: A 2016 graduate of Esperanza High School...Competed in four years of track and also played four years of football for the Aztecs...earned multiple All-League honors during his football career, including first team honors as a senior...a member of 2016 California State Champions in track and field.
PERSONAL: Son of Tracey and John Meyer...has two brothers, Jake and Ty...favorites include the Minnesota Vikings, Will Smith, "Trailer Park Boys" and "When the Game Stands Tall"...says the best advice he has been given is "you decide where you want to be"...advice to young people is "it is not cool to be disrespectful"...lists his high school football and track coach, Bill Pendleton, as his greatest hero...undecided on a major.
