2011 (SENIOR)
OUTDOOR: Competed in all four throwing events for the Matadors qualified for both the hammer and javelin at the Big West Championships...finished 10th in the javelin with a career-best 161-11 and 15th in the hammer (145-6)...tossed a lifetime-best 164-2 in the hammer at the Bryan Clay Invitational...recorded a lifetime-best in the discus (140-0) at the Aztec Invitational and 46-2 3/4 in the shot put at the USC Trojan Quad Meet.
INDOOR: Did not compete.
2010 (JUNIOR)
OUTDOOR: Finished 12th in the Big West in the hammer and 13th in the javelin...posted a best of 156-1 in the hammer and a season-best of 147-7 in the javelin...threw a season-best 161-11 in the hammer at the USC Trojan Invitational (Mar. 20)...posted a season-best of 161-6 in the javelin at the Cal-Nevada Championships (Mar. 28)...also had season-bests of 43-9 in the shot put and 135-11 in the discus.
INDOOR: Did not compete.
PRIOR TO CSUN: Spent 2007-08 as a thrower at Glendale College...earned CCCAA All-America honors...a two-time team MVP...also earned All-Western State Conference accolades...best mark in the 16-pound hammer was 161-5 and best in the discus was 139-8...threw for coach Jason Bender.
HIGH SCHOOL: A 2005 graduate of St. Francis High School...competed in both track & field and football...finished second in the Cal State Hammer Championship in 2005 and was fifth in the CIF in the discus...was named team MVP of the Golden Knights track & field squad in 2004 and 2005...graduated with a 3.57 grade point average.
PERSONAL: Son of Marie King and Jim Poet...major is Mechanical Engineering...has two sisters, Kathryn and Michelle...Kathryn plays softball for Missouri...favorites include sushi, the bands Slipknot and Linkin Park and Eminem...says the toughest thing about being an athlete is “time management”...says the best advice he’s ever been given is “be like water.”
